Job Description

40 Hours Per Week - Must be available some rotating weekends (1 weekend per month) and be available rotating nights (no later than 7pm)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Animal Lab Technician to join our team in a high-volume testing facility. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations, including sample preparation, testing, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position involves working with zoonotic testing and requires flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to precision and quality in a fast-paced lab setting.

Minimum Qualifications :

• Associate's degree or higher in Biology, Animal Science, or a related field (minimum of 2 years of college).
• 1+ year of laboratory experience.
• Experience with PCR is preferred.
• Ability to work comfortably in a lab environment with high testing volume and same-day testing demands.
• Team-oriented mindset with flexibility to adapt to dynamic workflows.

Key Responsibilities :

• Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas, including washing dishes and stocking consumables.
• Print labels, organize, and label samples before and after testing.
• Run samples, supplies, and waste between facilities as needed.
• Prepare aliquots of reagents and track, assemble, and ship sampling kits.
• Update and maintain freezer inventories and manage long-term storage of clinical samples.
• Process samples, including adding media, centrifuging, and performing complex processing of tissue and semen.
• Set up thermal cyclers, create worksheets, and prepare master mixes for PCR.
• Perform manual spin column nucleic acid extractions and use automated systems like KingFisher Flex.
• Conduct gel electrophoresis, QIAxcel, conventional PCR, and real-time PCR.
• Assist in Sanger sequencing preparation.
• Manage invoicing for supply cost reimbursement.

Desired Skills :

• Experience with PCR, sample preparation, and lab techniques is highly desirable.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
