General Summary

Installs, services and repairs stoves, refrigerators, dishwashing machines, and other electrical household or commercial appliances, using hand tools, test equipment and following wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Connects appliance to power source and test meters, such as wattmeter, ammeter, or voltmeter, observes readings on meters and graphic recorders.
  • Examines appliance during operating cycle to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks and loose parts.
  • Disassembles appliances and examines mechanical and electrical parts.
  • Traces electrical circuits, following diagram and locates shorts and grounds, using ohmmeter, calibrates timers, thermostats and adjusts contact point.
  • Cleans and washes parts, using wire brush, buffer, and solvent to remove carbon, grease and dust.
  • Replaces worn or defective parts, such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers and defective wiring.
  • Repairs and adjusts appliance motors.
  • Reassembles appliance.
  • Adjusts pulleys and lubricates moving parts, using hand tools and lubricating equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience performing the work of a maintenance mechanic.
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer software programs to include Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a government background screen for admittance to jobsite
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school certificate in related field preferred

Physical, Environmental and Sensory Requirements

  • Regular exposure to extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid conditions, electric shock, moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles, loud noises, chemicals, etc.
  • Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, reaching, and use of hands; regularly lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires use of hand and power tools applicable to trade
  • Ability to maneuver a job site, including small spaces in around our equipment
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
