Department Information Within this setting, the Department of Political Science and International Studies' mission is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be productive, politically literate, and engaged citizens in their communities, their nation, and the world. This position will contribute significantly to the Department's strengths in the area of global security with a focus on international crime, terrorism and counterterrorism, and/or human rights and a preferred regional focus on Africa. This position will also contribute to the growing partnership between the Department of Political Science and the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology around this important topical area. The Assistant Professor will be expected to contribute to collaborative, interdisciplinary research in this area with a specific emphasis on securing external grant funding and engaging with local and international community partners. The position will also contribute to cross-disciplinary courses to support the following undergraduate and graduate programs: BA Political Science, BS Criminal Justice, Master of Arts in Social Sciences, and MS in Criminal Justice. As such, support in research and teaching for this position will be offered by both Political Science and International Studies and Criminal Justice and Criminology departments.
Job Summary Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Political Science and International Studies, the Assistant Professor position requires a strong commitment to research (50% workload with an expectation of securing external grants), a strong commitment to cross-disciplinary undergraduate and graduate education, and to service at the department, college, university, and/or professional levels. The position is an academic (10 month), tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications Earned Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Political Science or International Studies, by August 1, 2025.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications Research and teaching expertise in any of the following areas of global security (broadly defined): international crime, terrorism and counterterrorism, human rights, international criminal law/justice.
Research and/or teaching expertise in Africa.
Evidence of teaching techniques designed to reach a diverse student population, including online and graduate students.
Record of extramural funding commensurate with experience.
Proposed Salary Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
