The Ambulatory Resource Team is the float pool for the ambulatory clinics within the Charleston division of MUSC. The CMA will be oriented to the adult primary care offices and specialty clinics. The specialty clinics can include, but not limited to, women’s health, cardiology, urology, ENT, endocrinology, dermatology, oncology, orthopedics, transplant, pulmonology, rheumatology, and GI. The pediatric offices include, but are not limited to, primary care, cardiology, urology, ENT, endocrinology, dermatology, oncology, orthopedics, transplant, pulmonology, rheumatology, and GI.

Job Description

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday-Friday (8:00am- 4:30pm)

Job Summary/Purpose: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Basic computer skills required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Annual competencies are required to be maintained. Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Failure to abide by MUHA policies are subject to disciplinary action, including termination. Employee must possess considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Licensure &/OR Certification: Must be certified through the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health career Association (NHA) or MedCA as a Certified Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant (MA1), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
