GENERAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and the Director’s group.
- Directly supervise all medical providers employed by the community health center and in such capacity, oversees the quality of care provided to all Health Center patients.
- Establish the vision and strategic direction for quality improvement/assurance.
- Responsible for overall oversight and planning of information systems for the organization.
- Provide primary medical care to patients of the Health Center in accordance with the Physician job requirements.
- Direct all credentialing and privileging activities of the medical staff including employed and volunteer physicians as well as midlevel providers and clinicians.
- In conjunction with the Director of Program Planning and Strategy, create a medical staff development plan and update it on an annual basis.
- Attend board meetings, making recommendations for credentialing and privileging as well as providing medical staff reports.
- Serve as Director of Anesthesia Services - Medical.
- Coordinate midlevel supervision by the physicians and insures care coordination for SCHC patients.
- Provide supervision for assigned midlevel providers.
- Conduct supervision reviews

- Consult on patient cases as needed or requested
- Establish annual quality metrics for the medical staff, assess progress on a routine basis.
- Serve as a member of the Quality Committee of the board as well as the operations Quality Committee, presenting quarterly reports to each committee.
- Responsible for oversight of medical diagnostic imaging.
- As part of the annual development of the operating budget, establish productivity targets for the physicians and is responsible for achieving targets.
- Together with the Chief Financial Officer and the Corporate Compliance Officer, is responsible for monitoring providers’ documentation and coding to assure compliance with federal and state guidelines.
- Represent the physicians on state and local EHR committees, making recommendations and overseeing medical staff optimization of the EHR.
- Annually evaluate the performance of the employed physicians, midlevel providers, and other directly assigned employees and recommend compensation to the CEO.
- Responsible for oversight of medical diagnostic imaging.
- Serve as Laboratory Director for both the Moderate Complexity and CLIA Waived Laboratories.
- Together with the leadership team, develop and monitor physician contracts for compliance with FMV and federal regulations.
- Represent the medical staff at the local, state and national levels and serve as the liaison with other Chief Medical Officers.
- Responsible for the management and leadership of staff and day-to-day functions of Physicians, Midlevel Providers, IT Manager, Behavior Health Medical Director or Social Services department, HIV Medical Director, and Clinical Pharmacists.
- Utilizing first-hand knowledge of assigned tasks and responsibilities, demonstrate initiative in offering proactive suggestions for improvements in departmental workflow and processes.
- Embrace and support the Health Center's Process Improvement and Quality initiatives and support the PI and Quality teams in their initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND SKILLS
- Holds a current license to practice medicine in the State of Iowa.
- Board certification in family practice preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
- Has practiced medicine for a minimum of five years.
- Has a minimum of three years of medical director/leadership experience.
- Is proficient in the use of the EHR and is an advocate for its optimization.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
