Summary:

The EVP, Chief Risk Officer works in partnership with the executive leadership team to design and implement the company-wide risk management program. They maintain risk management for XD Bank.

This role oversees the design and implementation of the enterprise risk management strategy and framework and ensures that a coordinated and consistent approach to risk management activity is undertaken across the organization. The position is responsible for providing ongoing risk management support and guidance to the business, including the Enterprise Risk Management Committee (which the EVP, Chief Risk Officer chairs); designing and producing management and board-level risk reporting; coordinating with Internal Audit, Compliance and other parties as necessary to ensure that there is a comprehensive risk management assurance program in place; and developing and promoting an open relationship with the Bank’s regulators and other stakeholders, as considered necessary, on risk-related matters. The EVP, Chief Risk Officer initiates, sponsors and/or monitors strategic projects and programs related to risk management and is primarily responsible for overseeing the development and adaptation of the target operating model and risk governance, ensuring the business risk management accountability, implementation and maintenance of a robust risk process and consistent risk governance structure across the enterprise.

Essential Duties (Include but not limited to):

  • Designs and implements a risk assessment process to ensure that all existing and emerging risks are appropriately identified and managed
  • Ensures that appropriate policies, procedures, systems and controls are in place to mitigate unwanted risk and to enable the measurement and quantification of risks across the organization
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of management and board-level risk reporting to support appropriate business and strategic decisions, including an appropriate process for the timely escalation of key risk issues and exceptions to risk policies
  • Chairs the Management Enterprise Risk Management Committee
  • Works directly and cooperatively with risk assurance functions (e.g., Internal Audit and Compliance) to ensure that the scope and frequency of risk assurance reviews are appropriate to the Bank’s risk profile
  • Ensures that the Bank has the proper resources and tools to support an effective risk management function
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with the Bank’s regulators, external auditors and other third parties, as appropriate
  • Drives continuous improvement of the Bank’s risk management practices, commensurate with its size and complexity
  • Reviews external and internal environment and identification of issues or concerns related to potential gaps in existing processes, procedures, policies, frameworks

Qualifications (Education, Computer Skills, Certifications, Etc .):

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, quantitative or related field
  • Regulatory Commissions, CIA, ACAMS (or equivalent experience) Risk certification or Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • 10 or more years in banking industry, regulatory bodies or consulting firms.
  • Solid understanding of banking and financial services industry
  • Comprehensive risk management knowledge (as a banker or a regulator) in the key risks facing banks including
    1. Credit risk (including ALLL)
    2. Market risk
    3. Interest rate risk
    4. Liquidity risk
    5. Investment risk
    6. Merger and acquisition integration risk
    7. Regulatory and legal risk
    8. Operational risk (except to the extent this relates to the review function performed by the Audit Committee)
    9. Reputational risk
  • Sound understanding of the tools and methodologies used to measure and quantify risk, including but not limited to, the use of models
  • Broad understanding and knowledge of industry best practice and regulatory expectations for risk management
  • Analytical, methodical and common-sense approach to problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills across all levels of the organization as demonstrated by proven ability to generate recommendations which improve the business and are accepted by business line management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience communicating to all levels within the organization
  • Fully capable of working on own initiative, with a high degree of autonomy and independent decision-making capability
  • Able to work under pressure and manage conflicts/priorities.
  • Ability to champion continuous improvement.
  • Executive presence and excellent communication skills
