Job Description
We are a new, physician-led specialty clinic in Fountain Valley, focused on pulmonary, and sleep medicine. Founded by a board-certified physician, our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to patients facing serious respiratory and sleep-related health issues.
I. Clinical Duties (Patient Care):
Patient Intake:
Greeting and escorting patients to examination rooms.
Taking and recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, weight, height).
Obtaining and documenting chief complaints, medical history, current medications, allergies, and pain status.
Preparing patients for examinations and procedures.
Assisting Providers:
Aiding physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants during examinations and procedures (e.g., positioning patients, handing instruments).
Setting up and cleaning exam rooms and equipment before and after patient visits, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols.
Maintaining sterile fields and assisting with minor sterile procedures.
Administering Medications and Injections:
Administering oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal medications and immunizations as directed by the provider and within state scope of practice.
Educating patients on medication instructions and potential side effects.
Specimen Collection and Processing:
Performing phlebotomy (drawing blood) and collecting other specimens (urine, stool, etc.).
Preparing and labeling specimens for laboratory testing and ensuring proper transport.
Basic Procedures and Tests:
Performing basic laboratory tests on-site.
Performing electrocardiograms (EKGs).
Assisting with wound care, dressing changes, and suture/staple removal.
Providing basic first aid and emergency care as needed, maintaining CPR certification.
Patient Education:
Providing standardized patient education on procedures, diagnostic test preparation, chronic disease conditions, and general health promotion.
Answering patient questions within their scope of practice and referring more complex questions to the provider or RN.
II. Administrative Duties (Office Management):
Scheduling and Front Desk:
Scheduling and confirming patient appointments, including referrals to specialists or diagnostic imaging.
Managing patient check-in and check-out processes.
Answering telephones, managing inquiries, and directing calls appropriately.
Medical Records Management:
Accurately documenting patient information, vital signs, test results, and treatments in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Managing and organizing patient charts.
Billing and Insurance Support:
Verifying patient insurance information.
Assisting with basic billing inquiries and form completion.
Supply Management:
Monitoring and maintaining inventory of medical and office supplies.
Ordering and restocking supplies.
Ensuring medical equipment is functioning properly and scheduling maintenance/repairs.
III. Skills and Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Must speak Vietnamese fluently.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certificate or associate's degree).Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA, etc.) is often preferred or required by employers.
Current CPR certification.
Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Understanding of basic pharmacology and medication administration.
Familiarity with medical office procedures and clinical protocols.
Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with empathy and compassion.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist patients as needed.
Manual dexterity for performing clinical procedures.
