Overview, as pertaining to the position in the Gupta Lab: The Clinical Research Coordinator for computational behavioral phenotyping is responsible for recruiting research participants and leading the individual through a detailed neurologic assessment while employing several technologies to record the assessment. These assessments will be performed inside the MGH outpatient neurology clinics, utilizing the newly developed “Neurobooth” which is an instrumented booth consisting of a wide range sensors and devices for capturing motor and cognitive behavior. The role will also involve leading remote studies, in which participants are sent devices for use at home. Additional responsibilities will include recruiting and consenting participants, careful management and processing of recorded data, and fine tuning of clinical task design and recording equipment setup. Essential Functions (additional To Items Listed Below) Learn, perform, and carefully record and document standardized clinical assessments of neurologic (motor and cognitive) function Learn and perform audio, video, inertial sensor, and computer task data collection using custom technology and software Remain flexible to learn to use new technologies incorporated into the study Extract key clinical data from each participant’s electronic medical record for study and disease specific databases Maintain and fine tune recording equipment. Determine improvements that can be made and order new equipment as needed. Create data clips (video, audio, etc) for meetings, presentations, and publications. Back up and archive data daily to servers at MGH Work closely with mentors in the MGH Neurology department as well as mentors at Harvard University, Broad Institute, MIT, and Duke University Potentially, develop a new motor or cognitive task to incorporate into the research sessions Potentially, identify a new technology that will facilitate the capture of important neurologic information and incorporate this technology into the research sessions Perform an analysis of a subset of the collected data with the goal of presenting and publishing the results Assist in preparation of abstracts, posters, and research manuscripts Train and sign-off other research assistants starting in this position, as appropriate to the level of this role Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (additional To Items Listed Below) Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks Ability to coordinate research activities with all members of clinical care teams Computer literacy as it relates to Microsoft Windows environments, including ability to troubleshoot simple computer problems independently Ability to use and troubleshoot technologies such as microphones, video cameras, inertial sensors, smart phones, tablets, and computers Excellent writing and communication skills in the English language Excellent problem-solving skills Ease interacting with and taking direction from multiple levels including physicians, scientists, and engineers Qualifications (additional To Items Listed Below) Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, psychology, computer science, engineering, or biology strongly preferred Preferred: 1-2 years of human behavioral clinical research experience, including recruiting research participants, developing protocols, managing collected data, and creating IRB documents Preferred: 1-2 years of experience using Redcap to manage data collected in clinical studies Those candidates with at least one year of experience post degree may be considered for a Clinical Research Coordinator II position Please Include The Following With Your Application Resume Cover Letter Transcript (Unofficial) Job Summary Following established policies, procedures, and study protocols, provides assistance on clinical research studies, including recruiting, evaluating, and consenting patients for studies; collecting and organizing patient data; scheduling patients for study visits; performing clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc.; maintaining and updating data generated by the study. Additionally, it provides input into determining study subject suitability and input into recruitment strategy. Performs data analysis, interpretation, QA/QC, and assists in completing reports and presentations. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions Assists with determining the suitability of study subjects and acts as a resource for patients and families. Has input into recruitment strategies and may contribute to protocol recommendations. Administers scores and evaluates study questionnaires. Maintains research data, patient files, regulatory binders, and study databases. Performs data analysis and QA/QC checks and organizes and interprets data. Assists with preparation for annual review and assists PI in completing study reports and presentations. May assist with training and orientation of new staff members.
