The Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) is seeking a Community Health Educator (CHE) to support the mission of the Center for Cancer Equity and Engagement (CCEE). The role involves community outreach and engagement efforts to reduce the burden of cancer among Massachusetts residents and beyond. Under the guidance of the Program Manager and CCEE Leadership, the CHE will coordinate and implement cancer-related health education activities across the state, focusing on regions most impacted by disparities. The position also supports communication efforts by sharing accurate cancer information and developing relationships with community partners. About CCEE The Center for Cancer Equity and Engagement (CCEE) handles the Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) component of DF/HCC. CCEE collaborates with organizations statewide to address cancer disparities, increase access to care, and connect researchers with communities to bridge gaps in access and information. It emphasizes a bi-directional relationship between communities and healthcare providers to reduce disparities. Work Location & Travel This hybrid position involves two or three remote days per week, with remote work permitted only from New England states (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI). The candidate must be willing to travel evenings and weekends using their own vehicle to sites like Lawrence, New Bedford, Fall River, Springfield, and Worcester. Key Responsibilities Health Education - 50% Deliver in-person and virtual cancer education activities such as workshops and presentations. Develop culturally and linguistically appropriate educational materials responsive to community needs. Identify new opportunities for cancer education and participate in community engagement events. Assist in recruiting community members for engagement activities and disseminate health promotion materials. Support other health education activities as needed. Administrative Support - 30% Coordinate event logistics, support planning meetings, and track outreach metrics. Develop summaries of CCEE initiatives for community partners. Participate in conferences, projects, staff meetings, and support documentation efforts. Partnership Development - 20% Develop new community partnerships, support Community Advisory Board meetings, and collaborate with partners to ensure education aligns with community needs. Help build capacity in community organizations and represent DF/HCC at community events and meetings. Maintain ongoing relationships with community partners. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in public health, health education, community organizing, social sciences, or related field, or equivalent experience. At least 5 years of experience in public health or related fields, with 4 years in health education and outreach among diverse communities. Experience with community engagement, building partnerships, and social media marketing. Strong communication, initiative, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, virtual platforms, Canva, Adobe Acrobat Pro; willingness to learn new software. Knowledge of public health issues and systems of care. Preferred Qualifications Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or similar certification. Experience working with Massachusetts communities, project coordination, and curriculum development. Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred. Knowledge of cancer, health disparities, health equity, and social determinants of health.
