The mission of the Data & Analytics group is to build high-quality ground software systems that deliver data and analytics to our customers and to establish software development best practices for the company.

HE360 is currently seeking a Data Scientist to develop the next generation of cutting-edge capabilities and algorithms that extract actionable insights from complex data sources.

Reporting to the Director of Data Science, the Data Scientist will be responsible for leveraging their RF domain knowledge, data science and engineering skills to develop and maintain new capabilities and products at Hawkeye 360. They will receive direction from the Director of Data Science and a principal team member, with a focus on improving algorithms, systems, and capabilities that provide Hawkeye 360 customers with crucial intelligence and insights used by the US government and international allies.

The right candidate must be an open-minded creative problem solver who understands the structure of RF data, the systems that generate it, and how people use it. They will have experience leveraging concepts and algorithms from signal processing, statistics, machine learning, AI, etc., to solve real world problems. The candidate will work in a cross-functional environment, interacting with people across the technical spectrum, from algorithms and data engineering teams to intelligence analysts, product owners, and program managers to develop, productionize, and maintain new capabilities. The role will consist of implementing, testing, and scaling of signal processing algorithms and ML solutions on compute clusters. Additionally, the candidate will carry out studies and analysis of data to better understand product performance and drive future development. They will support debugging and maintenance of existing and future systems while documenting and presenting their work to team-mates and stakeholders. Furthermore, the candidate will develop KPIs, reporting/monitoring and integration/system tests for products and systems.

As the Data Scientist, your main responsibilities will be:

• Perform exploratory data analysis and execute studies on algorithm and system behavior using RF data and other derived data sources
• Process and model RF, geospatial, and other types of data
• Containerize software applications using Docker and deploy/manage them using Kubernetes.
• Apply debugging and problem-solving skills to support and troubleshoot data-science applications and systems that drive our products
• Participate in collaborative development practices by performing merge request reviews, providing feedback on software architecture and algorithm design, etc.
• Work independently in a fast-paced environment with a geographically distributed team
• Create reports and demos to clearly state problems, process, and solutions

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential education and experience:

• B.S. or M.S. in electrical/computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or related quantitative field
• 3+ years of experience in data science applications that require working with sensor data, time series, and complex data types (e.g. RF, acoustics, medical sensing, etc.)
• 3+ years of software development experience using Python, and experience with standard python tools and frameworks (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, SciKit)
• Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks, like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Jax
• Experience working in small development teams on a shared codebase using version control (e.g. Git, Mercurial, etc.)
• Can solve programing problems related to data structures, recursion, search/sort, and regular expressions
• Good analytical and organizational skills
• Clear and effective means of communication
• Experience thriving in a fast-paced work environment
• Knowledge of signal processing, machine learning, and numerical computing

Desirable:

• Demonstrated success in developing and deploying data science applications and ML models in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, Azure
• Strong familiarity with advanced Math, Physics, Signal Processing, and engineering technologies related to RF technologies
• Knowledge of monitoring and analytics tools to support system and product visibility (e.g. OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Tableau)
• Master's degree or PhD in relevant field

Base Salary Range: $125,000 - $160,000 annually

HawkEye 360 offers a compensation package that includes a competitive base salary plus annual performance bonus and benefits. We consider many factors when determining salary offers, such as candidate's work experience, education, training & skills, as well as market and business considerations. We are also open to considering candidates with experience and qualifications at a different level than required in a job posting, which may affect the compensation package offered.
