POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrical/General Maintenance Technician installs, repairs, troubleshoots and maintains building electrical equipment and distribution systems. The individual in this role also repairs, installs and troubleshoots the campus fire alarm, security, and lighting control systems; installs, re-lamps and maintains the Outdoor Lighting Systems including installation of bases and poles; installs, re-lamps, scheduling and cleaning of Campus Facility Interior Lighting.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain building electrical equipment, distribution systems, circuits and their controls. Work involves both single and three phase AC systems. Maximum voltage is 480 volts.
  2. Install, repair, troubleshoot and maintain building security systems, lighting control, cable TV and fire alarm systems.
  3. Installation and maintenance of commercial outdoor lighting systems including poles and bases.
  4. Preventive maintenance of all electrical systems and equipment.
  5. Lighting system relamping and cleaning in all facilities and outdoor areas of campus.
  6. Emergency generator and transfer switch maintenance and activation, as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Must understand, support and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following: Work Experience
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience working on the systems described in the "responsibilities" section.
  • Experience in developing a material list for installation projects from the associated drawings or sketches.
  • Experience and sufficient familiarity with the National Electrical Code to effectively use it as an installation guide and to understand what is permissible or not.

Education
  • At a minimum, possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship program or graduated from a two-year electrical vocational training program -- or equivalent.
  • Training in general workplace safety and electrical safety.
Technical Skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot, find, and diagnose the cause of equipment/system failures and to perform repairs.
  • Ability to install electrical raceways, conductors and devices of all material types for interior, exterior, and underground locations.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and to use them for system installation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work in full compliance with workplace and electrical safety requirements.
Certifications & Licenses • Electrical training, as described above Workplace Factors
  • Ability to work from heights including: ladders, scaffolding and aerial lifts.
  • Be in good physical condition in order to perform heavy lifting (50 pounds) and to transport equipment and labor materials to various sites.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and perform tasks that require bending, stooping, gripping, stretching, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls during non-business hours.
  • Ability and insurability to drive University vehicles.
  • Work hours are primarily 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with a half-hour lunch break. Occasional overtime is required.
