Job Description and Duties

The Environmental Programs Directorate supports current and future mission requirements of the CMD by assisting units, programs, and leaders to comply with environmental laws, regulations, and policy while promoting environmental stewardship at military training sites and facilities.

Under close supervision of the Training Site Branch Chief and Compliance Program Manager, this position supports the CMD’s Compliance Program at Camp Roberts (CR) with regular assignments to Camp San Luis Obispo (CSLO) and quarterly visits to Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB). Duties are broad-based and include, but are not limited to, management of the following media areas: hazardous materials and hazardous waste, stormwater, drinking water, wastewater, underground and above-ground storage tanks, landfills, solid waste/recycling, air quality, and other related programs. The position requires occasional travel in-state and out-state.

Statement of Qualifications

  1. What in your opinion is the role and importance of environmental management of military lands and mission activities?
  2. Managing environmental technical program requirements for hazardous materials/hazardous waste, underground/above ground storage tanks, wells, septic systems, landfills, industrial wastewater, stormwater, drinking water, pesticides, and/or sustainability programs in compliance with federal, state, and local laws/regulations.
  3. Preparing and/or implementing environmental permits for the program requirements identified in Item 2 above.
  4. Managing contracts for environmental projects including preparing scopes of work and contracting documents, obtaining bids, assessing bids, reviewing and approving contract deliverables and invoices, managing budget issues, and related tasks.
  5. Communicating technical environmental requirements to staff, leadership, managers, regulators, and the public in writing, verbally, and through presentations/briefings.
