About A+ World Academy

A+ World Academy is one of the most unique international boarding schools in the world. We give sixty-seven 11th and 12th-grade students, as well as gap year students, the opportunity to take secondary and Advanced Placement courses at a fully accredited high school at sea that travels to 15+ port cities on the oldest fully-rigged sailing ship still operating in the world. We offer a challenging, rigorous, one-of-a-kind program that develops students into global citizens and leaders with grit, resilience, and perseverance. A+ World Academy students are pushed to their limits in every aspect while learning to be proactive problem solvers with practical experience and a global perspective. While creating strong academic achievement in our students, we engage them in an extensive experiential education program of rigorous maritime endeavor, close-knit communal living, study in foreign lands, and personal mentoring from teachers that cultivates their self-knowledge, resilience, problem-solving, and leadership abilities far beyond that of a more traditional school setting. Our students don’t just worry about getting to class on time; they deal with real issues such as monitoring water c ... onsumption from a shared source, recycling’s impact on the environment, and living in a socially conscious way to reduce pollution. They have numerous maritime and community responsibilities, including day and night watches, cleaning, and galley. Our students develop life skills such as leadership, resilience, grit, accountability, and teamwork, all of which will lead them to success in university and in life. They overcome challenges on a daily basis that strengthen both their character and confidence. All of this applies to our teachers as well. There is a tremendous emphasis on taking care of our students, and one must truly want the type of engagement, rapport, and tutoring that comes with this program in order to be successful. Our teachers go far beyond content specialists and act as parents, mentors, tutors, teachers, and caregivers. A successful candidate for our program must also portray tolerance and a true desire to foster cultural awareness and understanding conversations in a non-judgmental and supportive way. This experience is as difficult and exhausting as it is rewarding; if you are the right person, then you will not count the hours of a workday but will count the lives impacted within the ten-month program.
