POSITION PURPOSE

Assist Director of Housekeeping with day-to-day operations. Provide training, coaching, and counseling to all housekeeping employees.

WORK SCHEDULE

Depending on the schedule, but if scheduled:

PM shift Monday - Friday, 2 PM to 10 PM

Mid shift Saturday - Sunday 11 AM 7 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

AVERAGE % OF TIME

40% facilitate the hiring process, including interviewing, training, and evaluating job performance. Provide ongoing training and development to all positions.

30% Interact with all employees in the Housekeeping Department. Evaluate, coach, counsel, and provide leadership support.

20% Conduct inspections of guest rooms and provide feedback to room attendants.

10% Manage administrative duties, including payroll and operating expenses.

Other:

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the hospitality industry's cyclical nature, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the hotel's business needs. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

Upon employment, all employees must fully comply with hotel rules and regulations to safely and effectively operate the hotel’s facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performing the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time spent performing each function solely determined by the manager based on the hotel's particular requirements.

  • Must speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess essential computational ability.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.

Physical Demands

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
  • Long hours are sometimes required. Walking and standing are required during the rest of the working day. The time these tasks may take may vary daily and from task to task.
  • Must exert a well-paced ability to reach other hotel departments on time.
  • Must exert well-paced ability in limited space and reach other hotel locations on time.
  • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill cleaning/inspection tasks.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Must have finger dexterity to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machines, electric typewriters, multi-line touch tone phones, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dollies, and other office equipment as needed.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education

High school or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum three years of management experience with at least two years in housekeeping management at progressively higher levels of responsibility.

Grooming

All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per Warwick New York Hotel standards.
