Duties and Responsibilities

The Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking passionate young interns who are innovative doers and thinkers and interested in making a difference for a better world. OHR promotes a dynamic, adaptable, and mobile workforce with the highest standards of competence and integrity, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the Organization's mandates. These internships are within the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD) of OHR, part of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy, and Compliance (DMSPC). GSPD serves as the central authority on all human resources management matters, ensuring the Organization has the strategies, policies, frameworks, and tools necessary to attract, develop, and retain a talented and diverse global workforce. The division fosters a culture of engagement, leadership, and results by providing strategic and thought leadership, policy guidance, and innovative solutions for managing talent end-to-end. This includes strategic workforce planning, talent acquisition, staff development, performance management, mobility, and appropriate duty of care for all Secretariat staff. The internship is for a minimum of two months with a possibility for extension to no longer than six months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office where they are assigned. Examples of daily tasks include: Administrative and Technical Support: -Assist in updating and maintaining internal records, databases, and SharePoint files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. -Support ongoing projects and reform initiatives, providing administrative assistance as required. -Assist in preparing materials and content for team presentations, reports, and communications. Research and Data Analysis: -Conduct research on HR-related policies, best practices, and data trends, summarizing key findings. -Collect and analyze data for internal reports, budgetary submissions, and oversight reviews. -Develop visual solutions and reports based on multiple data sources to support decisionmaking. Workforce Engagement and Talent Management: -Assist with the development of training materials and coordination of briefings and training sessions. -Participate in outreach efforts to engage talent communities, promoting job opportunities and HR initiatives. -Contribute to content development for digital platforms, including internal websites and social media. Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy: -Support initiatives related to workplace mental health strategy implementation. -Assist in compiling and tracking content for the Healthy Workforce platform. -Help coordinate events and engagements, such as the launch of mental health-related programs. -Create a repository of best practices for mental health engagement across the Secretariat. Meetings and Documentation: -Attend meetings, conferences, and working groups, summarizing discussions and drafting reports. -Provide support in document editing, tracking changes, and ensuring consistency in technical documents. -Monitor follow-up actions and contribute to the execution of key HR initiatives. Other Tasks: -Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors, ensuring smooth project execution. -Collaborate with different teams within OHR to support cross-functional HR initiatives.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Educational background or exposure to human resources, psychology, public administration or related issues is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D.
