The School Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal functioning and safety of school facilities. This position involves performing a wide range of maintenance tasks, from routine inspections and preventive maintenance to urgent repairs and improvements. The technician will work closely with school staff to maintain a clean, safe, and conducive learning environment for students. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a dedication to maintaining high standards of facility care.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
Perform routine maintenance tasks in the following areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical wiring, lighting, HVAC systems, and other building systems.
Conduct inspections of school facilities to identify and address maintenance issues and safety hazards.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests from faculty and staff.
Assist in the installation of new equipment and systems as needed.
Maintain inventory of repair equipment and supplies; anticipate and order necessary materials.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe work environment.
Coordinate with external contractors for larger repair projects and ensure work is completed to specifications.
Perform janitorial duties as necessary to maintain cleanliness and orderliness of school buildings and grounds.
Procure minor supplies from nearby stores as instructed.
Assist in setting up tables, chairs, props, and other items for events
Operate electric vehicles proficiently on school grounds for maintenance tasks.
Monitor radio and cell phone communication during maintenance and repairs.
Effectively communicate with supervisors and co-workers regarding tasks, instructions, issues, resolutions, and collaborate on team projects.
Physical Requirements:
Regular attendance and physical presence at the job.
To regularly operate a variety of power tools and equipment, in a safe fashion.
To regularly stoop, crawl, kneel, push, pull and reach
Ability to be in constant motion and on one’s feet all day, with periods of prolonged standing, walking, and bending
Ability to climb ladders and stairs frequently.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects on different surfaces, ladders, and/or stairways.
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. or more while using proper lifting techniques
Ability to work in varying temperature environments (internal and external parts of the building).
Minimum Qualifications:
Five (5) years prior experience required in the performance of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing
Ability to demonstrate formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write (English) at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as but not limited to safety data sheets (SDS), operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, etc.
Experience with computer based BMS, CMMS, Controls and or aptitude to adapt to new systems quickly.
Understanding of safe work practices.
Current valid California driver’s license.
Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.

Pay range:
In the spirit of pay transparency we share the base salary range for this position for the 2025-2026 academic year. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels is $34.00 - $45.00 per hour. Within this broad range, we pay in accordance with what could be reasonably expected based on an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan employer contributions or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status and number of months of work per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical for Menlo School in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
