First International Bank and Trust is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Mortgage Loan Underwriter to join our Mortgage team. The successful candidate will perform final reviews of mortgage loan documents, analyze risk, and ensure compliance with guidelines to support efficient loan decisioning. This is an in-office position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform final review of mortgage loan credit, income, asset, and property documents to assess acceptability and ensure proper calculations within the service level agreement (SLA).
• Analyze credit history, income capacity, assets, and collateral eligibility to evaluate risk for manual underwriting or automated underwriting data validation.
• Ensure compliance with the guidelines of insuring/guaranteeing entities and secondary market investors.
• Approve or reject loan applications or request additional information, as necessary.
• Approve loans within specified limits and complete the loan approval process for closings.
• Document and communicate loan rejections, outlining investor and institution guidelines and reasons for decline.
• Assist the loan department with training, respond to information requests, and support other loan-related duties as required.
• Maintain proper correspondence and legal files.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.
• Minimum of three years of experience underwriting conventional and government mortgage loans (including USDA, VA, FHA) and State Agency housing programs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet is required.
• Experience with Encompass is preferred.
