Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to join a fast-growing team as a Residential Mortgage Underwriter. This role provides the opportunity to work with a wide range of residential mortgage products, including Conventional, Jumbo, FHA, and VA loans, and to play a key role in ensuring lending decisions are made based on thorough financial and credit analysis, alongside property valuations.

This position offers flexibility with the option to work from a local office or remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwrite and make decisions on agency conforming, Jumbo, FHA, and VA residential mortgage loans.
Verify and analyze all necessary financial documentation, ensuring that loan files are complete with the required credit and legal documents.
Review appraisal reports and identify any discrepancies, taking steps to resolve them.
Perform a comprehensive analysis of an applicant's income, expenses, assets, credit report, and property valuation to determine loan eligibility.
Calculate qualifying ratios, assess creditworthiness, and provide well-informed risk opinions to ensure sound lending decisions.

Required Qualifications:

4+ years of experience underwriting VA, FHA, Conventional, and Jumbo Loans.
4+ years of experience with FNMA, FHLMC, and Non-Conforming mortgages is a plus.
Proficiency in Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector/Loan Product Advisor (LP/LPA).
Strong understanding of the mortgage lending process and industry standards.
Ability to perform essential loan calculations (e.g., DTI, LTV).
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to handle multiple loan files at once and work efficiently under deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
