The explorer program will not exceed 12 weeks. Explorers will attend St. Mary’s Hospital Orientation as their first week, and then will be placed into rotations based on their selections and unit availability. Explorers will spend 3 weeks on each unit, working as though they are a new graduate nurse on orientation. They will be expected to perform patient assessments, administer medications and complete tasks specific to the unit (ex. Checking chest tube output on an ICU patient). If a unit only has one opening, they will be moved to the bottom of the list for explorers to choose from.
