Utilizes advanced health assessment, knowledge, and decision making skills, works independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals. Provides health care to individuals and families, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention. They may care for patients ranging in age from newborn to elderly as noted in age-related category and area of expertise.

Education Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a health/science-related field

NP/PA – Nocturnist Hospitalist – Duluth, MN

PRACTICE SPECIFICS:

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant utilizes advanced health assessment, knowledge, and decision-making skills, while working both independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals. The NP/PA will provide health care to individuals and families, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, caring for patients age 18+. Position requires high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers, and others.

• 25-year-old Hospitalist program with 62 physicians and 23 NP/PAs
• Hospitalist cover Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center and Essentia Health Duluth which are located on the same campus and connected via an indoor skywalk system. Provision of secondary and tertiary care services to patients from a wide region including northern Wisconsin and north-central and eastern Minnesota
• Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center is a 350-bed tertiary care hospital, Level I certified Trauma Center with the consistently highest-ranked cardiovascular program and Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center
• Essentia Health Duluth is attached 140-multispeciality hospital with acute dialysis, medical surgical, psychiatry, and outpatient surgery units

• 3-5 years of Hospital Medicine experience required
• Target Nocturnist staffing model: 2 Physicians and 1 APP
• Typical Nocturnist team workload: cross cover 200-230 patients per night, plus 15-20 patient admissions
• Assist in review of bed request to our tertiary care hospital, to optimize bed utilization throughout our East market Hospitals including Essentia Health Duluth

• Nocturnist would start at 7pm
• 12 hour shifts
• Typical 7-day on, 7-day off schedule throughout the year, flexible scheduling
• Open ICU (no ventilator management)
• Procedures not required
• Epic Electronic Medical Record utilized throughout the entire Essentia Health healthcare system

  EDUCATION:

Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Current licensure as a registered nurse and Nurse Practitioner in Minnesota or current licensure as a Physician Assistant in Minnesota Current certification in BLS and ACLS National certification, in applicable area. Successful completion of Essentia Health credentialing process prior to practice.
