Job Description

Indiana Birth Center, formerly Sacred Roots Birth Center, is looking for a staff midwife. While we prefer an experienced midwife, we are open to considering the right new graduate who shares our passion for birth center care.

At the birth center, our midwives provide comprehensive, full-scope midwifery care. This position is ideal for a midwife who desires to provide high-touch care with 30-60 minute appointments, evidence-based policies that support physiological birth, and a framework emphasizing trauma informed care. You'll join a team of incredible midwives and nurses who are equally committed to exceptional care.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master or Doctorate Degree in Nursing
  • Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)Active RN and APRN licenses in the State of North Carolina (or Pending)
  • Meets continuing competency criteria of North Carolina and AMCB
  • Current NRP and BLS certifications
  • Committed to a trauma-informed approach to care

  • Previous community birth setting experience
  • Waterbirth experience
  • Prioritizes safety and client/family experience
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion in high-stress situations

  • Desire to impact a small organization in a positive way

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in direct client care activities in rotation with other CNM(s)
  • Adheres to the birth center model of care and philosophy of physiological birth, trauma-informed care, and informed consent
  • Adheres to birth center eligibility criteria for clients throughout antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care.
  • Provides comprehensive midwifery care and appropriate referrals
  • Provides competent and respectful care to all families regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or disabilities
  • Participates in administrative activities including staff meetings, regular chart reviews.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities including emergency drills (at least 3 of 4 annual trainings and at least 4/12 monthly drills) and in-service programs.
  • Participates in professional and community awareness activities
  • Supervises the orientation and functioning of birth assistants
  • Responsible for delegated aspects of daily operation, including acting in absence of Director of Midwifery
  • Participates in a quality assurance program
  • All staff are responsible for the maintenance and care of the birth center which includes cleaning, sanitation, laundry, and equipment maintenance
  • Delegation to birth assistant to ensure tasks and documentation are completed

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
  • The employee must be able to use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
