The City of Midwest City is accepting applications for a Part Time 911 Call Taker in the Emergency Communications Department. The incumbent is responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, obtaining essential information, and accurately entering details into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and accurate documentation of information for use by responding agencies. High school diploma or GED required. Must successfully pass a data entry test with a minimum of 5500 keystrokes per hour and pass an in-depth background check, polygraph, fingerprinting, FBI triple I check, drug screen, and hearing test. Must be able to attend OLETS training and Basic Telecommunications training and pass the required tests with a specified time frame. Previous experience in the operation of a two-way radio, teletype machine, and computer terminal with OLETS certification preferred. This is an entry level but highly demanding position requiring focus, multitasking, and sound judgement. The Call Taker must be able to manage stressful situations while extracting critical details from callers. Other software skills include (CAD) Computer Aided Dispatch, 911,OLETS and NCIC. This is an entry-level, highly stressful position that requires the ability to multi-task, process and retain information while remaining calm. Worker routinely relates to persons of all economic and social levels and must possess the ability to extract necessary information. Shift work includes ten hour shifts and holiday and weekend duty. Work is semi-routine with the exception of emergency situations. Worker must be able to remember a variety of detailed items and codes and to exercise good judgment. Job requires a high degree of accuracy. Worker is also subject to on call status. This position is designated as safety/security sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol screening. Starting Salary $22.3596/hr.
