Job Description

The Town of Shrewsbury seeks energetic individuals to join the Parks & Cemetery Division Team within the Department of Public Works as a Part Time Seasonal Laborer ! Seasonal Laborers work to keep our Town looking it's best, completing duties such as rubbish pickup, weed trimming, cleaning restrooms, lining athletic fields, leaf clean up and general maintenance of parks, ball fields, schools, playgrounds, and cemetery areas. Time: 7:00 am to 12:00 pm

Days: Monday- Friday (4 days per week, rotating schedule)

Hours: 20 hours per week, subject to work availability, weather, and funding.

Dates: Immediately through mid-December (weather permitting)

Requirements : Valid Massachusetts Driver's license, high school diploma

Pay: $20.40 per hour

Position: Part time, temporary position, non benefitted.

Examples of Work:

• Empty trash barrels at parks, playgrounds, and cemetery.
• Operating leaf blowers and weed trimmers.
• Cleaning of floors, walls, toilets, sinks, partitions, and other surfaces in and outside of restrooms facilities.
• Lift and load full trash bags into trucks and dumpsters, up to 40 pounds.
• Raking leaves, mulch, grass, etc.
• Clean up of playgrounds, tennis courts and basketball court areas.
• Maintaining grounds by mowing, raking, weeding and trimming.
• Weed trimming around monuments, guard rails and fences in parks & cemetery.
• Loam & seed grounds.
• Lining athletic fields using paint machines.
• Clean up of cemetery graves.
• Perform other related duties as needed.

Required Skills:

• Skills needed to use small hand tools, rakes, shovels, and related equipment.
• Ability to operate a lawn mower; ride on and push mower
• Ability to drive a light pickup truck, standard or automatic.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently or work as a team.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, trash barrels, up to 40 pounds
• Ability to read a map and locate sections/grave locations in a cemetery.
• Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.

Working conditions:

• Work is performed outside in a variety of weather conditions. Work with various cleaning agents, lifting and standing & walking for extended periods of time over uneven grounds.
