POSITION SUMMARY :

The Peer Support Specialist draws upon their personal growth experience to carry the message of hope and recovery to individuals who are currently enrolled in substance abuse treatment services. By offering outreach, encouragement, and support, the Peer Support cultivates and secures a connection with the enrolled individual, while teaching personal responsibility and serving as a mentor and role model.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Provides peer services for individuals in residential treatment. Meets with clients to discuss barriers and issues related to receiving full utilization of the service systems available. May provide direct assistance in the form of transportation, filling out forms making phone calls, or accompanying clients to appointments. Assists in finding necessary services other than covered services to meet basic needs Documents services are provided within 24 hours. Assists with direct care, Sober Socials, AA meetings, and co-leading group treatment. Attends training programs offered to enhance the effectiveness of the role. Interfaces with family members, or other involved parties for the purpose of maintaining or enhancing a person's functioning and recovery. Outreaches and follow-up of crisis contacts and missed appointments. Assists with the intake and admissions process daily. Participate in staffing, treatment planning and case conferences. Support and actively engage in practices of inclusion through Cultural and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : High School Diploma or GED required Peer Certification Training preferred WORK EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENT : Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills Data entry skills Excellent customer service skills Experience in working with the Native American population preferred Must demonstrate critical thinking, problem- solving and organizational and time management skills Must be able to work well with others in a team approach Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with a wide range of people, teams, managers, supervisors, and vendors Demonstrate professionalism/boundaries/ethics Possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card required Native American Connections
