Job Description:
Buffalo Psychiatric Center is seeking a Temporary Health Information Assistant to support our Health Information Management (HIM) department. The ideal candidate will have a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Certificate and be responsible for the following duties:
Responsibilities:
Compile daily census reports for inpatient, outpatient, and residential units.
Prepare daily, monthly, yearly, and fiscal statistical reports as needed.
Review, code, and input various health information into the Electronic Medical Record (MHARS).
Assemble and maintain inpatient, outpatient, and residential medical records according to regulations.
Perform discharge and concurrent analysis on inpatient, outpatient, and residential records.
Code new and discharge diagnoses using DSM-V and ICD-10 codes.
Monitor and audit inpatient and outpatient records for UCR compliance; compile delinquent record reports as needed.
Receive notices of changes in policy, procedures, or requirements relative to medical record maintenance and communicate these changes to unit, clinical, and clerical staff as needed.
Reply to written requests for information according to the Office of Mental Health Privacy guidelines and the BPC privacy policy.
Retrieve records as needed for release of information requests and staff requests.
Assist with qualitative and quantitative auditing as necessary, including any ad hoc auditing.
Run criminal history searches on all admissions and discharges and report findings to the legal coordinator and social worker.
Act as systems administrator for MHARS/ES VistA (CAC), including granting permissions/access and voiding documents. Assist in training new staff and creating job aids.
Review billing error reports generated through Sorian Financials and advise the patient resource office of issues or work with staff to correct deficiencies.
Monitor HIM helpdesk requests.
Assist with survey readiness activities and preparation.
Qualifications:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Certificate.
Strong knowledge of DSM-V and ICD-10 coding.
Experience with electronic medical records, preferably MHARS.
Ability to compile and analyze statistical reports.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Miscellaneous Information:
Work Hours: 8am- 4:30pm, Monday - Friday
Interview will be conducted in person or online based on the availability.
Training will be provided to the selected candidate.
