The Lactation Consultant/ Counselor is a Clinician, Teacher, and Leader. Routinely, the Lactation Consultant / Counselor provides specialized nursing care and education to breastfeeding mothers and their babies. In addition, the Lactation Consultant / Counselor makes clinical assessments, and uses current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the physicians and families breastfeeding goals. The Lactation Consultant / Counselor also has the opportunity to work in a staff nurse capacity, as needed.Licensure / Certifications Requirements:Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to practice in North CarolinaBoard Certified as a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or certified as a Lactation Counselor (CLC)BLS (CPR) American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare ProviderExperience: 1 year in breastfeeding/lactation support preferred Pediatric/Primary Care Nursing experience preferredResponsibilitiesProvide expert lactation support and education to new mothers and families, ensuring optimal breastfeeding practices.Conduct thorough patient assessments to identify individual needs and develop personalized care plans.Collaborate with healthcare teams to integrate lactation services into primary care.Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) and documentation of patient interactions.Stay current with best practices and guidelines in lactation consulting and nursing care._______________________________________________________________JMA Pediatrics conducts criminal background checks on all applicants prior to hire.
