SUMMARY:

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of all safety programs, including safety and health regulations, policies and procedures, training programs and other related safety programs for the Government and Hotel & Casino. This position also assists with technical safety and health support to government and Casino personnel, including providing any safety information that may be required. Provides direct administrative support to the Occupational Safety Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.

  • Plan and implement safety policies and procedures
  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation training
  • Conduct risk assessments
  • Enforce preventative measures
  • Conduct incident investigations
  • Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and determine causes
  • Oversee workplace repair, installation and any other work that could harm employee safety
  • Conduct workplace compliance inspections
  • Participate and occasion facilitate safety committee meetings
  • Maintain and update OSHA recordkeeping
  • Ensure that updated safety and workers compensation posters are posted
  • Identify safety-training needs and develop action plan to complete training. Ensure annual refresher training is accomplished as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Business or related field and minimum of five (5) plus years of progressive experience working in a professional safety position or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Hazards Act (OSHA) and other applicable state/federal regulations
  • Demonstrated experience managing and coordinating resources and projects
  • Demonstrated experience with direct responsibility for the protection and appropriate use of highly confidential information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office computer programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher
  • Must possess a valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and be insurable
  • Pass a background investigations, which includes: personal history, criminal history, driving record, credit rating, employment references, and satisfy suitability standards established by Prairie Island Indian Community and the Tribal Gaming Commission
  • Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends and holidays and available for emergency calls any time of the day or night in any instance of infrastructure failure or extreme weather phenomenon (on-call as needed)
  • Ability and willingness to travel for work assignments, meetings, and continuing education, including out of state if required
  • Pass drug screen (UA) and a federal criminal background check in compliance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act and the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Industrial Hygiene equipment, sampling, and reporting
  • OSHA 10 hour Training for general industry or construction

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*

  • Must be able to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and may be subject to working in extreme weather conditions
  • Performance of job duties will require standing, walking, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, and grasping
  • Manual dexterity to operate job related equipment
  • Work is performed in a variety of settings from a quiet general office to fieldwork or construction site; additional work areas may be unusually hot, cold, noisy, and active
  • This position may be subject to frequent exposure to extreme levels of temperature, air pollution, noise pollution, and chemicals
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and other potentially hazardous equipment

REQUIRED TRAINING:

  • Harassment training
  • Any position-related training as determined by department manager

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
