Are you a tech-savvy initiative-taker who sees tasks through to completion? Do you have experience in social science research or working with aging and/or disabled populations? If so, Vital Research, in collaboration with the state of New York, is seeking contracted Field Interviewers for the National Core Indicators – Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (NCI-IDD) project. This project involves assessing participant quality of life and satisfaction with state services through a series of interviews.

The position begins with a mandatory three-day virtual training course from January 7-9, 2025, with the project continuing through May 2025 (or until all surveys are completed).

As a Field Interviewer, you will play a vital role in conducting semi-structured in-person or remote (via Zoom) interviews with adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. You will be responsible for gathering insights on quality of life and satisfaction with services, focusing on core topics like accessing essential services, communication with providers, choice of services, transportation, personal safety, and community inclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently organize and manage your interview schedule.
  • Conduct interviews with empathy, creating a comfortable, unbiased environment.
  • Travel to participants’ preferred locations for in-person interviews (usually at their homes).
  • Track call dispositions and access participant information through an online file-sharing platform.
  • Manage Zoom meetings, send invites, and provide technical support.
  • Record interview outcomes, resolve inconsistencies, and submit findings.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with federal HIPAA regulations and data security.
  • Maintain regular communication with Vital Research for updates and support.

Field interviewers must be available for all interview modes (in-person or virtual) based on participant preferences. Compensation for interviews is per completion, covering all work hours, travel time, mileage, and supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Self-driven and comfortable working independently in a remote setting.
  • Tech-savvy , with proficiency in Zoom and other web-based platforms.
  • Comfortably working with individuals with disabilities, with sensitivity to their needs.
  • Excellent communication skills to build trust and establish rapport with participants.
  • Access to a personal vehicle for travel to participant residences.
  • Equipped with a webcam, personal computer, and a secure Wi-Fi connection .
  • Organized and attentive to detail to ensure accurate completion of tasks.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID–19 and Influenza viruses within one year and must remain current throughout duration of the project.
  • While not required, the CDC recommends RSV vaccinations for certain individuals, please refer to the CDC guidance for additional information.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in research fieldwork, especially interviewing or observational roles.
  • Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities, group homes, or day centers.
  • Sales-minded individuals who are energetic and resilient.
  • Interest in professional development for future social research roles or graduate school.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are highly desirable.

Compensation:

  • $400 for training and orientation, broken down as follows:
    • $50 upon completion of pre-training modules
    • $300 upon completion of virtual training
    • $50 upon completion of a skills assessment and mock interview
  • $90 per completed video interview.
  • $100 per completed in-person interview, depending on travel distance.
