Schedule: 3 shifts/week, 11.5 hours per shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), every other week + one 4th shift per month
Duration: 13 Weeks
Weekly Breakdown:
Weekly Gross: $3,131.00 Per Week
On W2(Taxable): $828.00 Per Week
Stipend(Non-Taxable): $2,303.00 Per Week
Position Summary: The Clinical Nurse (RN) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mount Sinai Hospital provides high-quality, safe, and evidence-based nursing care to critically ill neonates and their families. The RN integrates nursing theory, research, and professional standards within the Relationship Centered Care model to deliver comprehensive care and support to patients and the interdisciplinary healthcare team .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
Deliver patient-centered care by applying nursing process and evidence-based practices.
Assess, evaluate, and manage neonatal care needs using critical thinking skills.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
Educate patients’ families anticipating their needs and readiness to learn about care and health promotion.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Patient Experience
Role model Mount Sinai’s Relationship Centered Care (MSHRCC) including admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful rounding, medication review, and discharge wrap-up.
Respect cultural diversity and patient preferences, maintaining therapeutic relationships.
Address patient/family concerns proactively and escalate as appropriate.
Demonstrate empathy, compassion, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
Practice safe, efficient patient-centered care while identifying improvement opportunities.
Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based initiatives, and peer reviews.
Follow institutional protocols to prevent safety risks and escalate hazards accordingly.
Document nursing care accurately to support quality initiatives.
Operations
Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
Coordinate with management to ensure adequate supplies and resource utilization.
Escalate staffing and material shortages appropriately.
Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Maintain thorough and compliant documentation.
Professional Development
Foster a supportive environment for patients, families, and staff.
Develop clinical competence from novice to expert level.
Project a professional image and communicate with respect and empathy.
Integrate ethical principles into decision making.
Engage in lifelong learning, specialty practice councils, and unit initiatives.
Qualifications
Licensure : Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) License
Certifications :
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required
Experience :
Minimum 2 years Neonatal ICU experience in a hospital setting
Experience managing mechanical ventilation, ostomy care, and bubble CPAP
Level 3 & 4 NICU experience required
EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred
Education :
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Associate Degree in Nursing considered with relevant experience or BSN in progress
