Position Summary:
The OB Tech provides clinical and technical support to the Labor & Delivery unit, assisting nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers in the delivery of safe and effective patient care. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining delivery rooms, assisting with obstetric and surgical procedures (such as cesarean sections), and ensuring a clean, safe, and supportive environment for mothers, newborns, and families.
Assist with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and other obstetric procedures.
Prepare, organize, and maintain sterile instruments, surgical trays, and equipment.
Function as a scrub tech during cesarean sections and other surgical procedures in Labor & Delivery.
Support nurses and providers in caring for mothers and newborns immediately before, during, and after delivery.
Ensure all rooms and equipment are cleaned, stocked, and ready for patient care.
Transport patients, specimens, and equipment as needed.
Perform unit clerk responsibilities such as answering phones, chart preparation, and documentation support.
Monitor and maintain supply inventory for the Labor & Delivery unit.
Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times.
Provide emotional support and assistance to patients and families during labor and delivery.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a Surgical Technologist program or relevant healthcare training preferred.
Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; BLS certification required.
Prior experience in Labor & Delivery or OB setting strongly preferred.
Knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instruments, and OB procedures.
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Ability to stand, walk, and assist with patient transfers for extended periods.
Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious disease, and emergency situations.
Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
