No Duties and Responsibilities The Vice President for University Advancement will provide strong, creative, energetic, strategic leadership and will engage University Leadership, Deans, and Faculty in the Advancement process. The incumbent will design and implement Advancement Programs and Events that produce measurable results and increased resources and visibility for the University. The Vice President, through the Associate Vice Presidents and School-based Development Officers, guides the planning and strategies that result in support for the various Schools, Colleges, and Units on the campuses. Specific Responsibilities The Vice President will report to the President of the University and will serve on the University Leadership Council. The Vice President will cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of Principal Gift Prospects and will contribute significantly to the University’s Fundraising success. The Vice President will create a clear, specific operational plan with milestones to achieve progress toward long-term and immediate Operational and Fundraising goals that provide philanthropic support for the University’s mission and strategic priorities. The Vice President will oversee the recruitment, management, development, and retention of Development, Alumni Relations, and Special Events professionals, and support Staff fostering a culture of teamwork, mentoring, and mutual support. The Vice President will oversee the execution of targeted Campaigns for Schools or Programs such as Arrupe College as well as longer term planning and execution of next comprehensive Campaign. Recognizing that the current Development structure is centralized, the Vice President will work with the Deans to increase their involvement and participation in Advancement efforts in support of their Schools. The Vice President will provide support to the Alumni Relations Office through participation in Alumni Chapter activities across the country, presence at all national Alumni Advisory Board meetings, and in cooperation with the Director of Alumni Relations, provide strategic direction to Alumni Relations activities. The Vice President will work closely with the Director of Special Events to maximize the effectiveness of Events involving the University President as well as Donor cultivation and Recognition Events. The Vice President will represent the University to a broad range of constituencies, including the Board of Trustees, Alumni, Faculty, Staff, Friends, Patients, Senior Corporate Executives, Government Officials, and Foundations, and serve as a Leader within the not-for-profit community. The Vice President will undertake other duties as assigned by the President. Minimum Education and/or Work Experience A Bachelor’s Degree is required; an advanced Degree is highly preferred. Ten-plus years of significant leadership experience in Higher Education Advancement with an impressive record of increasing levels of responsibility and Fundraising, and organizational success. Direct experience in a complex Institution with multiple Academic Units, Athletics, and Academic Medicine will be extremely advantageous. Demonstrated success in recruiting, retaining, and building a talented array of Advancement professionals. A personal history of Fundraising success at the Major and Principal Gift levels. Experience in designing and leading broad-based engagement strategies, especially in Alumni Relations. Ability to engender trust and respect and be a Strategic Partner with Academic Leadership. Ability to listen to Academic Leaders and Faculty and translate needs and innovative ideas within the Schools and Programs into philanthropic opportunities. Ability to assess the organizational structure and Staffing Plan and to ensure that the necessary and appropriate human resources are available and aligned to meet the unique needs of the Advancement Programs and University. Ability to inspire and motivate Staff to new levels of performance and success and create a positive, forward-looking esprit de corps among the Staff. Ability to represent the University externally, to establish sincere, authentic, and enduring relationships and to inspire and motivate individuals, Corporations, and Foundations to engage with and give to Loyola University Chicago. Outstanding interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence required to navigate a complex environment, understand and relate effectively with diverse constituents, and interact in a sophisticated way with University Leadership, the Board, top Prospective Donors, Donors, and Community Leaders. Ability to assess the needs of the Program, prioritize those needs and create a clear, specific Operational Plan with milestones to achieve progress toward Operational and Fundraising goals. Experience planning, designing, and executing a comprehensive Fundraising Campaign is preferred. Experience working with and managing a Health Sciences Advancement organization is preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree is required; an Advanced Degree is highly preferred.
