Wholesale Underwriter -- Property & Casualty Insurance

This role involves evaluating and assessing applications for insurance coverage. It requires the application of expertise and independent judgment to assess risk eligibility based on available program guidelines. The position entails communication with Companies and Brokers through various means such as phone calls, emails, traditional mail, and face-to-face interactions. Responsibilities include examining insurance application submissions, analyzing reports from loss control consultants, and reviewing other relevant data to determine if applications meet program criteria.
Additionally, this role involves assessing the experience of risks within the specific business category under review, as well as evaluating the potential loss associated with catastrophes, severity, and frequency. The position may also require rating policies or verifying the accuracy of already rated policies. Proficiency in automated systems is essential to provide information for both new and renewal policies.
The individual will prepare quotes for agents while addressing their inquiries, as well as those from policyholders or potential clients. Support for agents regarding application questions and the possibility of company acceptance is also part of the role. Responsibilities extend to reviewing requests for cancellations and endorsements, as well as considering policies for renewal. It is necessary to request any supplementary documentation needed for processing applications, endorsements, or cancellations. Conducting marketing visits to agents is also required.
Candidates must hold a Producer’s License and have at least three years of experience in the insurance field, ideally with prior involvement in underwriting activities. A basic understanding of computers is expected. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with strong analytical capabilities and meticulous attention to detail. Candidates should exhibit resourcefulness and composed assertiveness, as well as proven negotiation abilities. Furthermore, a solid grasp of insurance coverage forms and their applications, familiarity with departmental rules and regulations, and the skill to work autonomously while completing assigned tasks within instructed boundaries and standard underwriting practices are required. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for collaboration with staff and company underwriters, along with experience in conventional underwriting processes and relevant classes or licenses in the industry.
