PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Hiring salary: $18.78 - $23.47/hour

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT An administrative Support Assistant will perform a variety of general receptionist and clerical duties to support the operations of the Public Defender's Office.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Provides reception and clerical support to the Public Defender's Office
- Answers and directs questions and inquiries by telephone, email, or in person
- Schedules appointments, develops, and processes files
- Performs typing and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, documents and manuals
- Sorts incoming mail
- Orders supplies
- Processes/files/serves records legal and other documents; maintains record keeping systems which include data input in case management system, Legal Server.
- Performs additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education: - High School Diploma or GED
Experience: - One (1) year of clerical experience.
Knowledge: - Knowledge of business English, spelling and math, general office equipment, and personal computers with related software applications.
- Familiar with the City of Aurora including locations of major intersections, points of interest and street names.
- Routine software and business applications, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases
Skills: - Accurately and efficiently processes information using a computer.
- Answering two (2) phone lines and transferring calls
- Must have tremendous patience and compassion
- Problem solving
- Team oriented
Abilities: - Desire and ability to solve problems
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and residents
- Ability to learn new skills such as new software
- Ability to handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy
WORKING CONDITIONS Essential Personnel: - When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands: - Light physical work lifting at least 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds with or without assistance.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate office equipment
- Vision for reading, recording, and interpreting information
- Continuous speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment: - Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment; occasionally works nights and weekends.
Equipment Used: - Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, copy/fax machines.
- This position may require the incumbent to regularly use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
