Paid Student Nurse Externship at St. Mary’s Hospital

Our student nurse extern program provides the opportunity to gain supervised, hands-on working experience while still in nursing school. Nurse externs gain valuable experience to help them prepare for careers as members of the medical community tasked with providing high-quality care to patients.

Nurse Externship Program Overview: 

Nurse Extern I:

• Candidate MUST be actively enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program AND
• Candidate MUST successfully completed at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation before Nurse Extern I offer can be extended.
• Nurse Extern I’s Performs or assists with patient care utilizing the nursing process under the supervision of a registered nurse preceptor. Provides care for patients of all ages according to the standards of care specific to the individual's needs.

Education

Nursing student currently enrolled in an accredited ADN, BSN or MSN program, or graduated with ADN or BSN within the previous 1 year.

Student must have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation.

Experience

Successfully completed at least one medical-surgical clinical rotation.

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
