Position Summary A Safety Trainer is responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating safety training programs to ensure that individuals are well-informed and capable of maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Create and update training materials, programs, and content that align with safety regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies.
- Conduct training sessions, workshops, and presentations on safety procedures, including but not limited to first aid, fire safety, hazardous materials handling, ergonomics, and more.
- Provide hands-on demonstrations, practical exercises, and theoretical knowledge to trainees to ensure comprehension and retention of safety information.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs by assessing trainees' understanding and skills through quizzes, practical assessments, and other evaluation methods.
- Stay current with safety regulations, laws, and industry best practices to ensure that training materials and programs are up-to-date and compliant.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions, trainee attendance, and performance to track progress and compliance.
- Collect feedback from trainees and use it to continually improve training programs and methods.
- Teach emergency response procedures and protocols, including evacuation plans, first aid, and CPR.
- Foster a culture of safety within the organization by promoting safety awareness, communication, and participation.
- Effectively communicate safety policies and procedures to all levels of the organization and ensure understanding.
Other Duties and Responsibilities - Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Education and Experience - A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety preferred and 15 years of experience as a construction safety professional required.
- Possession of relevant certifications, such as OHSA 500, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Certified Safety Health Official (CSHO) preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities - Strong communication and presentation skills are crucial for delivering effective safety training.
- Ability to identify safety issues, develop solutions, and communicate them effectively.
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance with safety regulations and documentation is essential.
- Proficiency with training software, learning management systems, and general office software.

This job may work inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements in restricted or confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces. This job may have exposure to working on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other exposures typical of heavy construction. This job also operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

- Must be able to travers and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing reaching, bending crawling, standing or stretching.
- The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
- Move about on the feet regularly. Sit for extended periods of time.
- Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- May require travel.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
- Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
- Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
- Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
