Job Details
- Evaluates patients referred to occupational therapy by completing initial evaluations within time standards per department protocol.
- Applies diagnostic and prognostic testing for musculoskeletal, neurological and neuromuscular conditions.
- Uses standardized testing to determine level of disability and track outcomes.
- Develops and modifies treatment plans based on patient's current function and makes disposition recommendations.
- Utilizes sensorimotor, neuromuscular re-educational, recreational and social activities to foster independence in activities of daily living.
- Applies rehabilitative activities tailored to patient needs including ADL training, home safety assessment, compensatory techniques, neuromuscular and sensory re-education, motor coordination, energy conservation, functional mobility, positioning, splinting and hand therapy techniques.
- Performs evidence-based therapeutic interventions addressing unique rehabilitation needs.
- Establishes treatment plans with measurable goals collaborating with patient, family and healthcare team including discharge planning.
- Recognizes individual limitations and utilizes available resources.
- Evaluates patients' learning styles and teaches required occupational therapy skills and techniques.
- Demonstrates flexibility by floating to other areas and working flexible schedules including weekends, holidays and after hours.
- Consults with rehabilitation team to select appropriate activities/programs based on patient needs.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, physicians respecting confidentiality.
- Manages time effectively prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements.
- Documents patient care activities including evaluations, progress notes and treatment records per standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepares patient schedules, billing charges and reports through timely documentation.
- Uses descriptive behavioral terms with correct grammar, approved abbreviations and medical terminology in documentation.
- Documents ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes to capture billing charges.
- Participates in professional development, department in-services, meetings and shares expertise to enhance quality of services and staff development.
- Assists in training occupational therapy and certified occupational therapist assistant students and hospital personnel.
- Acts as a resource for new staff by sharing information and providing education.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.
- Adheres to professional code of ethics (AOTA) and all accreditation and regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements
- Previous work experience providing direct patient care in outpatient, inpatient or inpatient rehab unit preferred.
- Prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
Schedule Information
- Flexible schedules including weekends, holidays and after hours.
- Floating may be required to any CommonSpirit location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment location or CommonSpirit-identified “float zone”.
- Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements in accordance with CommonSpirit policy.
